Sardis Hockey Academy 2011-2012

May is Here!
April has come and gone.  Students have been working hard on and off the ice.  Students have also had the opportunity to participate in cross training with some football and soccer challenges.  Barry Douglas, the marketing and sales manager for the Chiefs, lead a very helpful and important information session with the students on Social Media.  Carl Nienhuis has lead another great session on Sport Psychology dealing specifically with Attitude.  Team Wieking and Team Lindblad are still battling it out in the scoreboard-with Team Lindblad slightly in the lead. A few things coming up: May 9 is our trip out to UBC to challenge, encourage and grow trust at the ropes course, and for some fun at the Go Kart's in Richmond.  Students need to return their forms ASAP to Mrs. Elliott. Also, the Academy player dinner is June 14- more information will be coming.Spring Break:
Now is the time to rest up and take it easy.  Seasons have come to an end, and bodies need some time to rest. After Spring Break we will kick it up a notch with the anticipated Draft! Two teams will be formed and throughout the rest of the term points will be awarded through various activities on and off the ice.
Dryland training will be focused on Power, Speed and Agility, as well as general conditioning.  Just a reminder that Nutrition plays a big role in fueling the body, we will continue to have specific nutrition sessions to ensure students have the needed knowledge to support all their active lifestyles.
Also happening first week back is Sport Psychology with Carl Neinhuis.  Looking forward to another great session.

April schedule will be out this week.
First Three Weeks Report:
Sardis Hockey Academy students have had a great start to their semester.  During the first week, Neil and all the Chief's coaches came on the ice to give them an extra push to kick it off.  Goalies have had 2 on-ice and 1 off-ice specific instruction from the goalie coaches.  During the second week Neil lead the group through testing protocols with only a few sandbaggers in the group! You know who you are.  The students have also had the benefit of the Chief's players coming on the ice and helping Neil and the Chief's coaches go through drills. Harvey, Doug & Brandon have all had a chance to take the lead on specific instruction with the students enjoying the different coaching techniques.

Dryland has entailed much enjoyed conditioning at Prospera, as well as going over to the Leisure Centre.  Students should be keeping it light while they finish out their seasons in Dryland, and after springbreak we will look at bumping up their programs to encourage strength gains.  We have discussed the purpose of weight training as well as some basic Nutrition, including Protein supplementation.  This week students will have a session on Wednesday with Carl Neinhuis, a Sport Psychologist and professor from UFV.
